I asked about this plant in the 'orchidofmalaysia' forum 2 years ago....a malaysian orchids forum, owned by 'sifu' Rosli , the founder of new dendrobium species that called Dendrobium trengganuense in 2004.
I got replied by 'sifu' Nik and here it is..
"Hi all,
I were just curious about this hybrid and this is what I found out:
- Den. Siah Ko-Ko = Den. Ethel Kawamoto x Den. Constance. Registered by Lee Kim Bak in 1966.
- Den. Ethel Kawamoto = Den. Shibata x Den. discolor. Registered by Kawamoto in 1952.
- Den. Shibata = Den. taurinum x Den. tokai. Registered by Tanaka in 1947.
- Den. Constance = Den. discolor x Den. lasianthera. Registered by Laycock in 1940.
So this is a very old complex hybrid and consist of 4 Den. species i.e. discolor, taurinum, tokai and lasianthera.
I'm especially interested in Den. tokai Rchb. f. as this is the first time I've heard of it and it seems that it is a very pretty species from the Pacific Islands of Fiji and Tonga. The only picture I can find on the net of this species is on a Fiji stamp. Anybody has this species?
Nik "
February 2009, I just saw the flower of Dendrobium Siah Koko, live at orchid friend's house in Shah Alam. Yup, its twisted petal verrrryyyyyyyyyy nice! The flower in brown color.
Last month I got an orchid plant without flower. The owner said, its nice curly dendrobium. Today this plant give me a full bloom. And yessssssss! Its Siah KoKo!
Want to see the photo? Please wait.... :)
23/4/2009 - As I promised.. here the photo of Dendrobium Siah KoKo.. can you help me to count the number of twists at its petal? :) :)
